Upgrade Instructions

System Requirements

  • Mac - OS X Lion v10.7 and above
  • Windows - Windows 7 and above

For upgrading users, many of the new features, improvements and bug fixes will NOT be displayed until AFTER an “Import Records” is performed. Either a new Downline Data File or re-importing the current Downline Data File.


Instructions for upgrading to YL Family Program 3.4 from Version 3.0:

1) Download and Install “YL Family Program 3.4”.
This will install the “YL Family Files 3.4” folder on the Desktop.
DO NOT MOVE IT!
Being on the Desktop is required for upgrading file access.
After the upgrading process is complete and tested you may
move your “YL Family Files x.x” folder if you want and know what you are doing.
2) Make sure the earlier version “YL Family Program 3.0” works by running it
3) Then click on the Quit button.
4) Really make sure “YL Family Program 3.0” is not running.
5) Open the “YL Family Files 3.0” folder
6) (Windows only) Open the “System” folder
7) Locate the file “YL Data 3.0” (the extension of “.yl3” may or may not display)
8) Copy* the file “YL Data 3.0” (see Notes below)
9) Close the folder
10) Open the new “YL Family Files 3.4” folder which should be in your desktop.
11) Double-Click on the “Old Files” folder to Open it. This is to insure that the Pasted file truly goes into this folder.
12) Paste* the copied file. (see Notes below)
13) Close the “Old Files” folder.
14) Open the new “YL Family Files 3.4” folder.
15) Run “YL Family 3.4” and follow the on screen instructions and prompts.

Macintosh
Copy*
Move the mouse cursor over the desired file and click only once to select the file.
From the Edit menu select Copy "YL Data 3.0.yl3”.
Paste*
From the Edit menu select Paste Item.

Windows
Copy*
Move the mouse cursor over the desired file.
Right click your mouse.
From the displayed menu, select Copy.
Paste*
Move the mouse cursor over a blank area in the right half of the window, not over any file or folder.
Right click your mouse.
From the displayed menu, select Paste.

If the upgrade procedure did not work, there could be a problem with your version "YL Data 3.0.yl3" data file.

Upgrading from a backup file...

If your old YL Data 3.0.yl3 file doesn’t work there is a good change a backup of YL Data 3.0 will work.

Follow these steps:
1) Open the new “YL Family Files 3.4” folder which should be on your desktop.
2) Double-Click on the “Old Files” folder to Open it.
3) Delete any files in this folder.
4) Close the folder
5) Open the “YL Family Files 3.0” folder
6) Open the “Backups” folder
7) Copy* the newest file “YL Data 3.0 - yyyy-mm as of mm-dd-yyyy” (the extension of “.yl3” may or may not display)
8) Close the folder
9) Open the new “YL Family Files 3.4” folder which should be on your desktop.
10) Double-Click on the “Old Files” folder to Open it. This is to insure that the Pasted file truly goes into this folder.
11) Paste* the copied file.
12) Rename the file to (exactly) “YL Data 3.2.yl4"
13) Close the “Old Files” folder.
14) Open the new “YL Family Files 3.4” folder.
15) Run “YL Family Program 3.4” and follow the on screen directions

Instructions for upgrading to YL Family Program 3.4 from Version 3.2:

1) Download and Install “YL Family Program 3.4”.
This will install the “YL Family Files 3.4” folder on the Desktop.
DO NOT MOVE IT!

14) Open the new “YL Family Files 3.4” folder.
15) Run “YL Family 3.4” and follow the on screen instructions and prompts.
