Using Multiple Computers

You can use this program on as many computers as you'd like, both MACs and PCs (and even between MACs and PCs).

Special Limitations

This will work for only one member number with the corresponding registration code and corresponding Downline Date Files from Young Living. You can only share within one version of this program.

Background

The data file "YL Data x.x" (where x.x is the version number of the program) is the memory of the program. It contains all of your downline data, history, and your notes. It also contains many calculations and indexing to make the program run faster. All this information is stored in one file called YL Data x.x. This is the file that you will be moving between computers.

Brief Overview of the Process

From your master computer you will copy the YL Data x.x file to a flash drive (or other means of moving a file between computers). Then you will use that copied file to replace the same named file on your other computer(s). The location where the replacement happens is inside YL Family Files x.x folder.

Assumptions
  • You should have the same version of the program installed on the computers that you want to use.
  • You should identify one of your computers as the master computer.
  • On the master computer you should be preforming all database changing “work” which includes “Import Records,” editing of the Notes, checking Omit or DL of addresses or emails and creating “Saved Finds.”
  • Any “work” preformed on the other computer(s) (the non-master computer(s)) will be lost. This is why all “work” needs to be only done on the master computer.
  • Step By Step Instructions

    1) Quit YL Family Program x.x on ALL of your computers. Coping and replacing YL Data x.x while the program is running will surly corrupt this file.
    2) On your master computer:

    a) Find and Open “YL Family Files x.x” folder (this folder’s default location was on your Desktop - if you moved this folder then look accordingly).
    b) (Windows ONLY) Inside the “YL Family Files x.x” folder, Open the “System” folder.
    c) Locate the file “YL Data x.x” file (you may or may not see an extension of “.yl4” on the file).
    d) Copy* this file. Using the instructions below for Mac or PC on how to Copy a file.
    e) Insert a Flash Drive into your USB port.
    f) Locate and Open the newly inserted Flash Drive.
    g) Paste* the copied file into the Flash Drive.
    h) Eject the Flash Drive
    3) On your non-master computer:
    a) Insert the Flash Drive into the USB port.
    b) Locate and Open the inserted Flash Drive.
    c) Locate the “YL Data x.x” file.
    d) Copy* the “YL Data x.x” file.
    e) Close the Flash Drive
    f) Find and open “YL Family Files x.x” folder (this folder’s default location was on your Desktop - if you move this folder then look accordingly).
    g) (Windows ONLY) Inside the “YL Family Files x.x” folder, Open the “System” folder.
    h) Paste* the “YL Data x.x” file. When asked if you should replace the existing file by the same name, select Replace.
    i) Test. Double-Click on “YL Family Program x.x”
    4) Repeat for additional computers.

    Special Consideration

Copying YL Data to other computers does not link these computers together. The second computer with have a snapshot of the Master computer's YL Data at the time of copying. You will need to identify one of your computers as the Master and only make changes to this copy of YL Family Program x.x. The other computer(s) should be a "look only" and no modifications should be made to the “Working” program(s) on them. Modifications include: adding notes, importing records, checking or un-checking flags (like omit-DL). Therefore, with more than one computer, periodically you will need to perform the above step by step Instructions to refresh you secondary computer with a snapshot of the Master computer's YL Data file. Very important! If you enter data into the secondary computer, the next time you copy the YL Data file from the Master computer you will be deleting the data you entered into the secondary computer.

    Changing your Master computer

Let's say your desktop home computer is currently your Master computer. But you plan a long trip and would like to continue to actively update information and records to your YL business with your laptop while you are traveling.

    1) Following the instructions above, copy the YL Data x.x file from your current Master computer (the desktop computer in this example). And paste the YL Data x.x file into you laptop.
    2) Now call your laptop computer the Master and your desktop computer the secondary computer. Do not make any modifications to your secondary computer (the desktop computer)... no last minute changes or importing before you leave. You should now do all of your importing to your laptop computer (the Master computer).
    3) When you return home, copy the YL Data file from your Master (the laptop computer) to you secondary computer (your desktop computer) by following the instructions above.
    4) At this moment both computers are the same. Now call your desktop the Master computer and your laptop a secondary computer.
